CASTING & IMPRESSION PROCESS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will it hurt my baby ?
No, the casting powder is mixed with cold water which may cause surprise, but otherwise the child, can wriggle their fingers and toes whilst mixture is settings.

Could my baby be allergic to casting mixture ?
Unlikely as the powder is made from a completley natural product, seaweed, is hypoallergenic, non-toxic 100% biodegradable and is widely used within the medical profession for taking tooth and skin impressions.

How long does it take ?
It takes approx a minute or two for the mixture to set. Your appointment should take no longer than half an hour depending on your requirements and your baby !

What happens if my baby wriggles ?
Not a problem - moving fingers and toes can help to disperse air bubbles in the mixture.

Is the process very messy ?
It is best not to dress your baby in decent clothes as the mixture can be difficult to remove from clothing. Once the mixture sets it forms a rubber-like mould which will peel easily from the skin.

Does my baby need to be asleep ?
No, but it is probably a good idea to choose a time when your baby is calm ie: not when they are hungry or tired.

How long before a casting is ready to collect ?
Once we have taken the mould, it usally takes us about a week to cast, dry, prepare and paint the casting, we will ring you when your cast is ready for collection.
